Orkitok was treated yesterday (21 May 25) after being found with multiple injuries (believed to be more than 4 injuries) suspected to be from a lion fight—though hyena involvement cannot be ruled out. Immediate medical attention was provided by the KWS vet team, thanks to the swift action of the guides and rangers who raised the alarm. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them. This intervention has been added to our guide incentive list.
At this stage, the exact cause of the injuries remains unclear, as no direct witnesses were present. We await the official report to understand more. But what mattered most was that Orkitok received prompt veterinary care and feeding, and is now under close monitoring by the rangers in the OMC area.
On a related note, we’ve received multiple photos of the Black Rock lioness (Oloimina’s sister) showing signs of a severe eye infection. It’s evident the condition is worsening. It is unfortunate nobody shares the location details so the vets can be notified. Many say Masai Mara is like a Zoo. Kindly note it is not, sometimes searching a specific animal is like searching a needle dropped in the ocean.
