Description:
RimWorld manages three people who survived the crash of a space liner in the construction of a colony in the border world at the edge of the studied space. Sources of inspiration for this game are the spirit of the cosmic western Firefly, the deep study of Dwarf Fortress and the epic Dune and Warhammer 40,000.
Keep track of the mood, needs, thoughts, injuries and illnesses of the colonists. Participate in deeply worked battles of small teams. Use clothes, weapons and equipment made of metal, wood, stone, fabric and exotic, futuristic materials. Fight pirate raiders, hostile tribes, ferocious animals and ancient killing machines. Each time you play, discover a new world for yourself. Build colonies in natural areas from the desert to the jungle and tundra, which have their own unique flora and fauna. Manage the colonists and develop them using unique biographies, traits and skills. Learn to play easily with an intelligent and unobtrusive AI mentor
Additional Information:
Storyteller
RimWorld is not designed as a competitive strategy game, but as a story generator. It is not about winning and losing, it is about drama, tragedy and comedy happening in your colony. The game creates events such as pirate raids, the arrival of merchants and storms. But these events are not accidental. RimWorld uses an AI storyteller (modeled after the AI director from Left 4 Dead), who analyzes the situation and decides which event in his opinion will create the best story.
You can choose between three storytellers: Thoughtful Cassandra Classic, more thoughtful, focused on the construction of Phoebe Tikhonya and the completely unpredictable Randy Case.
Motley team
At RimWorld, colonists are not professional settlers - they are the ones who survived the crash of a passenger liner. They can be accountants, housewives, journalists, cooks, aristocrats, street children, soldiers.
The aristocrat will be strong in communication skills (for the recruitment of prisoners and trade negotiations on prices), but will refuse to do physical work. A simpleton from the farm knows how to grow food, but will not be able to engage in research activities. A boring scientist will be strong in research, but will be absolutely unable to perform social tasks. A genetic killer does not know how to kill anything, but does it very well.
Each hero has his own personality traits. Neurotic colonists work faster, but are more prone to stress and prone to nervous breakdowns. Rude heroes do not agree well with people and spoil the mood of others. Nudists love to walk naked, while cannibals enjoy the use of human flesh.
You can increase the number of colonists by accepting refugees, capturing prisoners in battle and recounting them to your side, redeeming them from slave traders, saving them, and also accepting immigrants.
Health modeling
Injuries, infections, prosthetics and chronic diseases are monitored for each part of the body and affect the abilities of the characters. Eye damage makes it difficult to shoot or do surgery. Injuries to the legs slow people down. Hands, brain, mouth, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach, legs, fingers and toes, and other parts of the body can be injured, sick, or lost. All this leads to logical in-game effects. Each individual has its own body structure, Take away the leg of a deer - and he will be able to run on the three remaining!
You can restore parts of the body using prosthetics, from the primitive to the supernatural. A wooden leg will enable Colonist Joe to walk after a rhinoceros accident, but he will still remain rather slow. Next year, you can buy an expensive bionic leg from a merchant, and Joe will become a super-runner. You can even harvest, sell, buy and transplant internal organs.
Serious threats are diseases. Open wounds will become infected. Influenza or plague can occur anywhere, and tropical rainforests are teeming with malaria and lethargic encephalitis. As colonists grow older, chronic diseases such as cataracts or back pain can develop.
Seasons and temperature
Temperatures are modeled both outdoors and indoors. As the seasons change, the outdoor temperature will rise or fall. Plants grow only at certain temperatures. When it gets cold, it starts to snow. People may get hypothermia or heat stroke.
You can control the temperature in the room using heaters and air conditioners in order to survive, create comfort or prevent rotting food. You can even build deadly temperature traps to roast enemies alive.
Creation of the world and natural zones
The game creates a whole planet from the pole to the equator. You choose where to land your rescue module: in the cold northern tundra, in a scorched desert, in a temperate forest or in the soaring equatorial jungle.
In different regions, different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, rainfall, mineral resources and relief. The struggle for survival in diseases-riddled, suffocating jungles is very different from the same struggle in scorched desert lands or in the frozen tundra with a two-month growing season.
Processor tactics
RimWorld uses a processor originally developed for tactical combat simulators such as the Jagged Alliance 2. This means that it provides many possibilities for creating interesting fights of small teams. For instance:
There is a cover system that simulates cover at low altitudes and around an angle.
This is a truly detailed algorithm for determining the probability of hitting and informing about it based on distance, skill, weapons, lighting, angle and cover.
Weapons have fairly thorough statistics.
Artificial intelligence plans and performs tactical moves such as flank defenses and attacks, while trying to stay away from the enemy’s line of fire. It uses a number of heuristic algorithms to analyze combat and make effective use of space. He works with allies and avoids congestion.
Since cover and placement are extremely important in battles, the battle algorithm interacts deeply with the terrain and structure of the colony. Players should think about how to better arrange their buildings in order to have the maximum advantage in future battles. You can build a variety of basic configurations to obtain the maximum tactical advantage over the enemy. The battlefield gaming processor as a whole is much more interesting than the traditional exchange of punches that can be expected from ordinary building games.
Educational system
This type of game can be difficult to learn. Therefore, we have created an adaptive training system that monitors your actions in order to find out which parts of the game you understand and to teach you those parts that you cannot handle. If you do not understand how to manage, then the game will unobtrusively explain and help. If you already know something, then the game will not bother you.
In addition, RimWorld uses a notification system to make sure that you have not missed anything. If you have little food or the colonist is about to turn into a berserker, a message pops up in the corner of the screen informing you of this fact. Now you will not be destroyed due to the fact that you missed some insignificant detail. If you are destroyed, then for a good reason.
Psychology
People at RimWorld are constantly studying the situation and surroundings to know how to feel at the moment. They respond to hunger and fatigue, to death before their eyes, to disrespectfully buried corpses, to injuries, to darkness, to being in cramped conditions, to sleeping in the open air or in the same room with outsiders, and to many other situations. You can check the hero’s psychology at any time to know how he feels and why.
When a colonist has been under stress for too long, he may experience a “nervous breakdown”. Someone does not stand it and wanders around the colony for some time. Someone is leaving. Someone in Dwarf becomes a psychopath and falls into a tantrum of violence.
Universe
The essence of RimWorld is a mixture of tough science fiction and the Old West. This is a frontier world at the edge of the studied space, far from civilized basic worlds. The planet is huge and mostly deserted. There are no strong civilizing governments anywhere nearby. You are left to your own devices.
The basic idea of the RimWorld universe is a variety of human conditions. Under these conditions, humanity is spreading throughout the galaxy in the absence of other ways of moving and communicating faster than light. Given the fact that stellar civilizations are declining (due to wars and epidemics) as often as prosperity, this means that an interstellar traveler can encounter people of any level of development: from pre-farming tribes to supernatural demigods-half-robots.
At RimWorld, novice colonists are at a technical development level in the middle of this range. But you can come across people of a much lower and higher level of development, as well as acquire and use their tools and weapons. At RimWorld, bows and arrows, shotguns, automatic rifles and biomechanical killing machines can participate in a single battle.
